4X European Champs – Szczawno Zdroj

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2012

I would rate this as one of the best most fun tracks to ride of the season with sweeping berms and big jumps it always has a god atmosphere with big crowds . Andrzej who runs the track puts every minute he has into making this track what it is today.

First official practice was on Friday evening and it was a interesting session, With the track being resurfaced the week before the race and being so dry it really left the corners super loose and drifty making tyre choices . The biggest change was the last straight with a new 10-12 metre jump being added which really required some good speed coming into it to clear it. Practicing my qualifying lines I got the track dialled in pretty quick . Once the floodlights came on it was gate practice for 2 hours.

After having a good lunch with the team we had a busy afternoon with a presentation of the teams and different countries and then straight into qualifying after 2 hours practice. Coming into qualification you could see it was going to be close in times. It was time for my qualification run after some practice. I put together a solid run with no mistakes keeping it smooth in the loose turns. I crossed the line taking 15th overall which would give me a good gate choice for racing.

Time to go racing with crowds really getting big and noisy there was thousands out to watch the race take place. Lining up on the gate with first choice I was up against one of the fastest polish local riders so knew I had to get a good snap to come out ahead, and that I did leading into the first turn and keeping it that way to the finish I took the win comfortably going into the next heat 1/32. I would have 2nd pick in the next race with Hannes slavik and Milan mysik, to hard hitters and fast riders. Out the gate I got a bit tangled up and which put me back in 3rd into the first corners staying that way trying to make up ground on the last straight but it just wasn’t enough going out and finishing 17th overall.

The event was awesome and a big thanks go out to Andrzej  for all the hard work on the track. Katie kurd (Team mate) took the ladies Euro title which was awesome to see and be part of.

My next event is the Dmr pumptrack series at Bishops Tachbrook pumptrack near Leamington spa next weekend.
