The mere mention of Glencoe Downhill Track strikes fear and panic in many peoples minds and entry levels plummet at races here as a result.

Around 200 people turned up this weekend which meant for a quieter than usual race weekend.

We were greeted by sunny weather all weekend and as usual the well organised SDA committee put on a great event with a casual feel.

saturday practice went well and the track was pretty greasy with water seeping out of the hillside onto the steep rugged hillside. Every run down changed slightly with large boulders appearing in the middle of lines and holes appearing.

I put in 6 runs which was enough to get to klnow the track well although it was hard to get a full run down without making a few mistakes.

Sunday morning came and I went up the hill and put in 2 runs and felt fairly solid.

On my first race run I got a good start and kept the pace up well . Reaching the steeper section the going got fairly tough and I took a couple of big hits on holes that had appeared between the boulders and bedrock which didn’t slow me down but both could easily have caused me to crash out so I was quite lucky there.

I crossed the line to finish 1st with David Tallontire (Uplift Scotland) 8secs behind with Neil Wilson (Alpine Bikes) a further 2 secs adrift.

I  had to push hard on my second run as although I had an 8sec margin on my first run I knew Tallontire was capable of pulling that back and Neil was always going to be a threat.

I had a very similar run to the first apart from my foot getting blown off the pedal at the wrong moment which very nearly ended up in disaster.

I hung on till the end to do a slightly slower time with tallontire closing the gap to 0.8 secs and Wilson not bettering his first run time.

Happy to take the win which now means Im on even points with David Tallontire in the Series.

Healing vibes to all who fell victim to the man eating track that is Glencoe.
