Nukeproof Junior team rider Dan Sheridan piloted his Scalp bike to victory over the weekend, at the first round of Simply Downhill’s race series at Nant Gwrtheyrn, North Wales.

Dan topped the Junior men podium with a winning time of 2:34.587 ahead of Billy Matthews (StevePeatSyndicate) and Jay Williamson (Certini Bicycle Co). The fact that Dan punctured 20 seconds before the end of his winning race run makes the win even more special.

Here’s what Dan said on his winning weekend:

“After arriving at the venue on Friday mid-day I walked the track which was steep, rocky and rooty up the top and then flattened out at the bottom for a long pedal to the finish. On Friday night it lashed rain for what seemed like the whole night. I did five practice runs on Saturday and was feeling good on the muddy track.”

“Being my first race in the Junior category I wasn’t exactly sure who the fast guys would be, but I knew the likes of Billy Matthews and Josh Lewis. My goal for the weekend was top five.”

“My first run was pretty good despite one mistake. I crossed the line and went into first place, nine seconds ahead of second place Billy Matthews! I couldn’t believe it.”

“It dried up lots for the second run so I was hoping to put in a better time. I was having a great run until about 20 seconds from the finish where I front-wheel punctured. I sprinted on and ended up going two seconds quicker.”

“I won the Junior category by nearly four seconds ahead of Billy and Jay Williamson. My time would have put me third in Elites and seventh fastest time of the day.”

“The bike went great all weekend. It was the first time I’ve pedaled it aggressively but I was amazed at how well it pedaled at the end. It was my first race onboard the Nukeproof Scalp but it certainly seems to be working!”

“I’d like to thank Nukeproof and my other sponsors: Nema, Eight.ie, SixSixOne, FiveTen, Schwalbe, Mulebar, Gamut, OC Tuning and Regal Graphics. Also Colin O leary for the lift and accommodation for the race!”
