The 2nd round of the First Tracks Enduro Cup took place at Bigwood, just outside Newry. With heavy rain on the Friday night the riders were in for a treat coming into the first day of practice.
“The First Tracks team did a great job on the tracks with some very tricky and physical stages which would make for some tight racing come race day” – Kelan.
“Saturday was great fun for me, I was enjoying being back on the MTB after a few weeks off racing on the road bike . After doing a full loop of the course I was excited to get going for race day. I opted against doing 2 laps as there was lots of pedalling on the stages so I was keeping my legs fresh for Sunday.” – Chris
Chris and Kelan both headed out together on Sunday morning for race day and the friendly competition defiantly help the guys push each other come race day.
“Today was one of the best days I’ve had on the bike this season, It’s always great racing against my team mate Chris as times are always tight between us and I think that drives each other to go faster. I had a crash on stage 4 and 6 in which I lost some time however I was happy with the rest of my stages being right up there in the mix with some world class riders. I ended up 4th overall on the day.” – Kelan
“ I had a good day out on the bike and spent most of the day doing the loop with my team mate Kelan and James MacFerran, all of my stages were consistent enough with only a few big mistakes throughout the day. I ended up 5th overall behind my team mate and some big names so I was happy with how I got on with the limited time I have spent on the MTB at the minute. I’m looking forward to the EWS in Ireland in a few weekends time.” – Chris.
All in all it was another good performance for the team, as it stands Chris and Kelan are currently 1st and 3rd in the series overall with two rounds to go. The next event for the team will be the 2nd round of the BDS at Fort William next weekend where Kelan and Jack will be taking part.
