“Sam’s Fruity little number”

The 2017 season is still a bit of a blur and in the Nukeproof office, we’re still pinching ourselves to wake up from the beautiful dream of Sam Hill’s 2017 Enduro World Series win on our Mega bike. But 2018 is here, the points tally is back to zero and the CRC-Mavic Pro Race team are out with Sram in Windrock, Tennessee preparing to take on the world’s best in the Enduro World Series.

Nukeproof are stoked to continue to support the team, back for 2018 with Nigel Page again at the helm. Jacy Schumilak is joined this year by Ewan Collier on the spanners to support an awesome 3 rider line up. Headed by reigning EWS champ Sam Hill, with Under 23 charger Elliott Heap making the full time switch to enduro from downhill. Irish national champ Kelan Grant joins the team after an awesome 2017 season with Team Wideopenmag-Nukeproof.

Sam’s Blueberry Nukeproof Mega 275c.

This year started as soon as last year finished, after a champagne-soaked evening in Finale Ligure, we sat with Sam Hill to chat 2018 colour scheme desires. After batting a few ideas around (lots of weird stuff) a trip to the buffet and with a wry smile from Sam, he unveiled what he wanted… a Blueberry coloured bike. Yep, the World’s fastest enduro rider is riding a Nukeproof Mega 275c with a paint scheme inspired by the humble Blueberry. So, we have broken the brief slightly and added some sparkle.

Here it is the new Nukeproof Mega 275c that will carry the reigning champ to defend his title. From the outset this year the team will be on our Nukeproof Mega 275c (Sam and Elliott are on the Medium and Kelan rides a Large). Mavic again provides the team with their legendary Deemax Pro wheelsets. After much testing last year Michelin joined the team as the tyre supplier with their all-new tyre line up.

Each rider has their own preference on set up. All three will run the Rockshox Lyric (170mm or 180mm depending on trails) up front but with Sam and Kelan are on the Super Deluxe air. Elliott Heap is choosing to try the New Super Deluxe Coil shock, .

Each rider has their preference on cockpit set up of choice, Kelan (780mm and 38mm rise) and Elliott choosing Horizon Carbon bars (760mm and 20mm rise), but all running against the convention of super wide flat bars (or is it high rise this week?). Sam runs his Nukeproof signature 20mm rise 750mm wide alloy bars and ultra-tacky Signature grips and a 50mm stem.

SRAM provides the drive train and brakes with Eagle X01 12 speed and the ultra-powerful CODE RSC brakes. Signature Nukeproof Horizon Ti flat pedals on his Mega with the inside pins removed and the rear adjustable pins are fully out (Elliott and Kelan will run Nukeproof Horizon CS pedals much to Sam and Pagey’s dismay).

Never clip in.

First ride on the Blueberry testing with SRAM in a “cool” Windrock, Tennessee.
