This summer we took some time to ride a few new spots with a few new people. I’ve done a lot of racing in my short time in mountain biking – but there are loads of places I’ve still not explored. So – we packed the camper van, got Cal Earnshaw and Ian Lean on board and hit the road for a week of riding some of the UK’s best downhill trails. There are so many great places to ride downhill at the moment in the UK that we’re spoilt for choice – we picked 4 destinations that we knew had great uplifts and fun trails. Bike choice was easy – the trip was 100% uplifts so I left the Mega at home and packed by Nukeproof Pulse.
Day one was Gawton – a trail I have ridden before but don’t get over to enough. FlyUp Downhill support the Wideopenmag.co.uk team so we couldn’t miss those guys and their new uplift venue out. We spent the day sessioning the trails, pushing up for yet another “one last go” on the jumps and just having a laugh on HSD, Egypt and Super Tavi.
Day two was another Fly Up Downhill uplift by pure coincidence. We hit up the Forest of Dean and met with the rest of the team. The trails were bone dry, the sun was out and we found loads of big jumps to have fun on. I like that place – there’s loads of riding packed into a small area with an easy uplift. I’ll be back for sure. We finished the day with some dirt jumps and a BBQ at my mate Aliano’s house.
