Glencoe Mountain Resort was the venue for the Annual Macavalanche Race sponsored by IXS.
The format for the event was a mass start race starting from the snow covered mountain top down to base station.
The weather over the weekend was fantastic and sunny which made the already stunning location of Glencoe the perfect place to be racing.
Saturday was spent practicing in the morning followed by a qualifying run to determine who made the cut to the Grand Final on the Sunday.
In my qualifying mass start heat I managed to get down the snow, rock and boggy mountainside in a respectable 5th out of the 30 starters to book me a place in the Grand Final.
Once up on the Snow field start line on Sunday for the final it was aparent that the snow section was not going to be easy as it was beaten up with holes and ruts left by the two previous semi finals. As the start gun went most people ran from the start to finish of the snow pushing their bikes. I persisted trying to ride most of it which turned out to be the slower option and i lost valuable ground. Once we got off the snow I picked up speed and started passing the many that had got on front of me earlier and continued picking away at the field to eventually come home 15th . Will have to practice running in the snow for next year!
The whole event was fantastic and well run by no Fuss Events and it was great to see so many of the countries fastest downhill and enduro riders battling it out in this unique event. Big congrats to Joe Barnes for taking the win for the 2nd year in a row and Team Nukeproof Rider Greg Williamson for taking 2nd place on my Nukeproof Mega that I worked on long into the night to get ready for him.
Thanks to No Fuss Events for their support and Glencoe Mountain Resort for their hospitality and friendly helpfull staff.
