Team ChainReactionCycles.com/Nukeproof 4X riders Michael and Lukas Mechura finished second and fourth, respectively, at the second round of the Euro 4X Series over the weekend in Szczawno Zdroj, Poland.

With almost 5,000 spectators and perfect weather conditions, the stage was set for a thrilling round of the Euro Series which was held under floodlights at the Sunny Meadow 4X track, venue for the 4X Festina Night Races for the last seven years.

As well as riders including Cedric Gracia, Tomas Slavik, Joost Wichman, Scott Beaumont and Michal Prokop, there was a redesigned course with new jumps – one with a nine-metre gap – plus a huge TV screen to keep the spectators happy.

Michael and Lukas posted very close times in qualification, but unfortunately weren’t fast enough to finish in the top ten, coming 13th and 11th, respectively. After winning all their runs until the semi-finals – where they finished second – they both made it to the main Final, up against current World Champion Tomas Slavik and 2011 Series leader Joost Wichmann, both from the RSP Racing Team.

Lukas said: “The big battle in the Final was between the RSP Team and CRC/Nukeproof, and because of our disappointing qualification times we were both outside of the gate. My gate was a bit better than Michael’s but I had some trouble with Joost Wichman who made a fast move to the right and hit my bars. My bars locked and I went hard over the bars.

Michael stayed on the bike and chased Joost until the fourth straight, passing him and powering into second place. I finished fourth.”

It was a massive boost for the Team riders on the back of a disappointing start to the 2011 race season, and will give them huge confidence for the next round. “Finishing on the podium for both of us at this hard race was awesome, and we’re happy for it,” Lukas said.

The next stop for the Team is the third round of the Euro 4X Series race at Afan, South Wales, this weekend. Good luck guys!
