Last weekend I took a trip up to Scotland for my first race of the year at the Alpine Bikes Winter Series in Innerleithan. It was a good track, even though there were some long pedally sections. This was my first time out on my Trek Session 8 since it had been fitted with the correct weight springs in the fork and shock. Everything is much more plush now and my Nukeproof ti spring looks sick!

On the practice day I sprinted off on my first run and died a bit after four runs! I took notice of that and did only one practice run on race day.

On race day it was hammering down with rain and was very cold, with sleet coming down up at the starting hut.  On my first timed run I felt good and relaxed then managed to crash in a blown out berm.  When I got to the bottom I had come in third. It was a bit annoying to have crashed but still good. Then on the final run I crashed again on a off camber section, but was still in third and had shaved three seconds off my previous run. I was soaked to the skin and a bit miserable but still pleased I had got on the podium in my first race.

I hope to do better in the next round and have learned not wear myself out in the first day! Well done to Frazer McCubbing and Andrew Dorrit who took 1st and 2nd places.
