“IXS European Downhill Cup- Sandra Rubesam”
For the fourth year in a row I`ve returned to Slovenia to compete at the second round of the iXS European Downhill Cup. The track got a lot of variety, like jumps, steep root sections, open grassy turns and deep loamy bits and all of this variation in a short 2:30min track – no time for mistakes at all!
My speed got better from run to run and I had a really good time racing my Nukeproof Pulse. I was excited for Qualifying on Saturday. I had a good run with tiny mistakes and qualified 3rd with a few small errors.
I thought it was a good result but for sure I was aiming for an improvement of my race time. On Sunday the sun was shining just like the whole weekend and I was keen for finals. Unfortunately I messed up the top section and lost important momentum. I knew directly that this was inauspicious as the track is too short to make time up. The middle section then went better but again, but not enough to make up for the mistake at the start. I crossed the line 3 seconds quicker than qualifying before but knew i had left some more time on the hill.
I ended up in 4th overall just missing 3rd place by 0.3 of a second. The disappointment at first vanished quite quickly and I was appeased about how the weekend went and i am looking forward to for timer to start ticking again in Abetone, Itlay.
