After a huge build up to this first British 4x race here at our very own “home” track the day had finally come, and what a day it was, with record breaking race entries 170 riders and hundreds of spectators this year’s series set the bench mark.

After a huge build up to this first British 4x race here at our very own “home” track the day had finally come, and what a day it was, with record breaking race entries 170 riders and hundreds of spectators this year’s series set the bench mark.

The spring weather looked very promising, clear skies, no wind, and the sun even showed up.

Racing began with our youngest team member 13 year old Elliot Thompson Knight, Elliot was probably the most nervous of all the riders as this was his first ever big competition. His first moto shocked him with a 2nd he then went on to a 1st,1st,2nd! guaranteeing a spot in the finals.

Up next was our two youth riders Cai Mahon and Josh Bremridge. Coincidently both riders have recently recovered from broken collar bones from last year’s season so both rode with caution. Cai had an unlucky first moto, but taking the win in his second unfortunately it wasn’t enough to see him through into the semis. Josh dominated his category with 1st and 2nds in every moto sailing his way to the finals.

Then there were the senior guys, Matthew Sills and Joe Billingham. Matt had an unlucky first moto landing on top of a crashed rider pulling him back to finish last, every other moto after he made top two. Due to the new rules Matt didn’t qualify as points are taken from your first moto and run offs are a now a thing of the past. Joe received his bike a few days before Nationals; speaking to his dad his bike had improved his riding, now named jumping Joe! Joe surprised everyone by qualifying up to the ¼ finals narrowly missing out on the finals.

Finally our two Pro Elite riders Nathan Parsons and Billy Cheetham. Nathan with his Pro Elite debut was tipped to win, as commentated the nateanator, smooth as butter did as we expected straight into the finals with a semi final win. Billy, riding 4x for the first time in 8 years, wasn’t clipped in for his first moto but clawed back to 3rd right on the finishing line . Billy did surprisingly well every moto after yet again due to the new rules didn’t qualify to the finals.

The finals “curse of the crashes “

Three of our team riders made it to the finals, Elliot Thompson Knight, Josh Brembridge and Nathan Parsons. The local support was overwhelming for our team. Weirdly enough all three riders crashed out more or less on the final straight all looking to take top positions all three riders went into do or die mode we couldn’t have asked for more. Bring on the rest of the season!
