It has felt like we have only had 2 races where the weather has been good all season – this weekend was the last round of the IXS in Chatel and with it came the SNOW!!!

Qualifying was Saturday and after practise in the dry on Friday, things had started to change a little. It was nice in the morning but the clouds had opened and the rain fell – hard. With the race only 1 hour from home, we were a little unprepared! It was so wet that we needed a mad dash back to meet mum half-way with more gloves, tear-offs and socks!

The organisers were expecting bad weather for the Sunday and rumours were going around that if they cancelled the race, the qualifying results would stand. Tahnée decided to go for it in qualifying:

"Things were going okay – not great – in my qualifying I needed to step it up a bit but on a simple flat bit before the split timer – next thing I know I found myself diving face down the track. It took me a few seconds to get my bike back and the mud out my hands and clips but I got back on my bike and started again – second part went okay!!"

Sunday was a different day and we packed the motorhome Saturday night got up early and traveled over to Chatel – much more organised! The rain had started early and after chatting to Tahnée, we were really hoping it stayed that way all day – the rivers running down the track make the course far more grippy – Tahnée was loving it.

As the day progressed, it got colder – a lot colder. Tahnée stopped training at 11.45 with her race run being at 13.30. She dried off in the camper, ate and relaxed – it was then time to cover up and get up to the start for her run.

Steve Ponting a local rider and Morzine/Les Gets mountain Bike guide was with us and as he was an unlicensed male rider who qualified 1st… he was off just before Tahnée so we all went up on the lift together and half way up, the chairs coming down were covered in snow – by the time we reached the top there was at least 5cm on the ground!!

"I was a bit gutted with my qualifying run so really wanted to put in a good time but when I got to the top it was snowing so hard I did not know what to expect on the track! The course was pretty blown out and it was really hard for me to get into my run. I felt as though I kept stalling and was pedaling up hill to get out of trouble – the roots had become so slippery. When I got down a bit further, the snow turned to rain and I started getting into it and was pleased to get down without falling".

We stayed around to watch the Elite women come down which Emilie Siegenthaler won and Miriam Ruchti came second. Tahnée took the third fastest women’s time of the day and had the fastest second split – good work.

Thanks to all of our sponsors this season it really is an impossible journey without all your help – THANK YOU!! It’s time to rest and have fun now… plus preparation for next season where Tahnée is eager to make an impression on the 2012 UCI World Cup circuit – SEE YOU THERE
