The success of Team ChainReactionCycles.com/Nukeproof at the Halo British Downhill Series continued over the weekend as Joe Smith and Matti Lehikoinen finished fourth and fifth place, respectively, at round four in Llangollen, North Wales.

Llangollen’s track is a favourite with all the riders – steep and fast with some great corners and sections to test the best at race pace. It’s also really short in terms of time, providing for really close finishes, pushing riders to the edge as they gun for the win.

The weekend’s weather started off wet and muddy for Saturday morning practice but by the race runs on Sunday afternoon the scorching temperatures turned the track to dust, and the racing was fast and wild. The crowd was as good as the track and the atmosphere on the bottom parts were like a World Cup.

Joe Smith and Matti Lehikoinen continued their solid Halo BDS performance streak finishing fourth and fifth, respectively, in the Elite category. Matt Simmonds rode a steady race, finishing just outside the top ten, and is working his way back slowly but surely following injury. Joe also narrowly missed out on the ‘Tag Heuer Fastest-Through-the-Speed-Trap’ prize, only getting beaten by race winner Josh Bryceland. The prize was a £1000 Tag Heuer watch, so Joe was gutted!

Team Manager Nigel Page managed another second place in the Masters category, narrowly beaten by Jim Hughes.

The team now continue on to Canada for round four of the UCI MTB World Cup in Monte Saint Anne, then Windham, USA for round five the weekend after.

Let’s hope the form from Llangollen continues over the next couple of weeks, good luck!
