Team ChainReactionCycles.com/Nukeproof 4X riders had mixed results at the third round of the Euro 4X Series in Afan, South Wales where Michael crashed out in the quarter finals and Lukas managed to finish fourth, despite a puncture.

It was the first time a major race has been staged at the new South Wales venue, which has been built by Phil Saxena and his team – but the combination of corkscrew bridge and tunnel, huge rock section and big pro line made it a hit with all the riders.

Weather conditions for the whole weekend were a stark contrast to the previous Euro 4X round in Szczawno Zdroj, Poland, so spikes, cut spikes and narrow tyres were the order of the day to deal with the mud.

The British National 4X race was held the day before the Euro 4X round, but Lukas and Michael –along with most of the other European racers there – sat it out to save all their energy for the big event. Lukas finished fifth in qualification with Michael taking 11th, but Michael crashed in the quarter-final from first place, ending his race.

Lukas rode successfully to the final where he was up against Milan Mysik, Scott Beaumont and Kamil Tatarkovic. It was one of the closest finishes in the Series yet, as Lukas explains: “In the final I had the best gate and closed it to the first corner. I was leading for the whole race until I picked up a rear puncture in the rock garden on the middle of the track. I kept first place anyway until the last corner, but I couldn’t hold my lead because the track was too soft. It was fourth place for me, and unfortunately I was last in the main Final again.”

The next stop for the Team is the next round of the Mountain Bike World Cup in Fort William, Scotland. Good luck guys!
