There is something of a purity riding a hardtail, knowing that all your getting back everything you’ve just put in. There is also the small fact that (in the UK anyway) winter is a cruel mistress on your full suspension bike and a great hardtail is a great addition to any mountain bikers garage.
The Nukeproof Scout has hidden in the shaddows of the Nukeproof Mega for a few years, but the sneaky Scout has been building a real core following of loyal Nukeproof fans (you only need to see one the awesome reaction of riders on many of the owners forums). Despite never been designed for competition, in 2017 the Scout has won races in 4x, XC and enduro at the hands of our athletes, as well as been a faithful friend to all their countless training miles and adventures. Yes the new Mega carbon was our headline for 2017/ 18 with Sam Hill’s World Championship winning success, but the Scout is more than just the support act and its all new frame has added something more our XC, Park, 4x, trail, downhill, enduro hardtail.
The Scout is designed as a do it all “hardcore hardtail” it’s built to live off road. The low slung top tube remains to give you loads of room on the descents, but across the sizes has grown a little to give you even more room up front. The scouts angles are slack, low and long, like the Mega its designed to inspire confidence and reward you in abundance. The geometry on the 275 have been optimised to base around a 2.6″ tyre (although it will still work perfectly fine with standard 2.3″).
The rear of the frame has seen the most changes to allow it to be a more forgiving ride. That said, the new frame hasn’t lost any of it’s drive, we have added a little comfort through all new contorted seat tubes , giving vertical compliance. The lateral stiffness is remained with boost 148mm rear spacing to ensure that the Scout is snappy through the turns. Available in 3 spec models Sport, Race and Comp and also as a frame only (all Nukeproof Mega parts will transfer on to the Scout frame).
Tyres on the Scout 275 (complete):
First we had fat bikes, then plus bikes, where next? Well we didn’t subscribe to these directions, they all have their benefits but our testers just couldn’t find what we wanted out o f using these tyres. It’s all gone back to the old school on the Scout 275’s with 2.6″ beefy Maxxis Minion’s. These offer superb ride comfort and cushioning, but still have strong sidewalls, loads of grip and ride like a mountain This is what we new Scout 275 comes with the new (old) standard of beefy 2.6″ tyres.
We’ve taken the time on all models (275 and 290) to ensure that the Scout offers the best specification possible across all the models. From the new Sport model, getting an all new 1×10 Shimano Deore drive train and plus Suntour forks (the best we tried for this price point). Teh Race uses Srams all new awesoem NX 1×11 drive train and matched with a Recon fork is a versitile trail vessel. The range topping Comp, uses full Shimano SLX group sets and brakes (180mm rotors as standard through the range) and Rockshox’s awesome new Revelation fork (140mm travel on the 275 and 130mm on the 290).
The Comp gets our all new Horizon wheels featuring super fast hub engagement, 29mm wide rims, with the Race benefiting from our superb new Neutron wheel sets. Finished with Nukeproof’s Neutron components including our new 800mm wide bars and short 50mm stems there the Scout is ready to start ripping up the trails.
We’ve taken a no nonsense approach to the new Scout, offering improvements from what our customers, media and our athletes have asked for. In simple its just a fun bike.
The Scout, redefine your limit.
