“New Ti Coated Headset Bearings, designed to extend life and improve performance”

For most riders the humble headset is a fit and forget item. It may get some love on the yearly service, the odd dab of grease or the luxury of new bearings on the annual service.

Nukeproof Headsets have been around for several years now and we’re pleased to launch a new range of upgraded headset’s and bearings which use the titanium coated races with stainless steel balls.

Scientific bit:

The titanium coating is applied using “Physical Vapour Deposition” which means that the material is vaporised in a vacuum environment and then deposited on the bearing races as a composition coating. This process allows the structure, density and stoichiometry of the coating to be controlled allowing the exact attributes in our design brief to be achieved. The coating is 0.000118” thick and has a molecular bond to the bearing races so it won’t wear off or corrode. The bearing is ABEC 5 certified which means that it has passed tests which include ID and OD tolerance’s, roundness of ball, trueness of faces & surfaces as well as noise testing at high RPM making it the perfect bearing for use in a headset.

These bearings have been designed for use in the harshest conditions, designed to withstand temperatures up to 600 ℃, are highly inert and do not oxidize (Therefore will not corrode easily).

The Nukeproof test team have put them through various extreme tests so we are 100% confident in their performance. So confident that Nukeproof will back the new Ti headsets with a 5-year warranty.

Below images show the standard steel bearings Vs a Ti Coated bearing (ok hard to get across in photos I know- feel free to conduct the same experiment!!). Both bearings have been left for 6 weeks in salt water then another 6 weeks in damp air storage. The Steel bearings on the left (New Vs after), they are seized. The right hand Ti Coated bearings, despite rust showing on the bearing casing still run smooth and true.
