“Wideopen Weekend Wrap up Race Week 2”
It’s been another big weekend of racing for Team Wideopenmag on board their Nukeproof bikes.
The downhill guys – Kye Forte, Chris Cummings and Morgan Tyrrell – were in North Wales for Round 1 of the National Downhill Series. It was their first proper race together as a team and their first time with the full team setup. It was a race they’d all been working to for months – in the gym, sorting out sponsors, training on the hill and in the workshop getting bikes read.
The track was a big, wet, muddy, rooty, rockfest that did its very best to break bikes and bodies. The team had a blast, loved racing in north wales (it was all of the rider’s first time at Nant G) and got on well with the tough track.
Chris Cummings raced his first race as a youth and got on the podium, taking 4th. Morgan Tyrrell, one year up on Chris, took second place in Youth at the end of a great weekend of stepping up his game.
Kye Forte – last but not least – deserves the biggest shout of the lot. Whilst he didn’t make it onto the podium, Kye completed the first elite race of his career having graduated first from the masters category and then from the expert category. That level of success is impressive alone – to do it in your mid-30’s with a job, two kids and an already amazing BMX career is something else!
Over the channel (literally we mean, you can see Ireland from the DH track in North Wales!) Kelan Grant raced the Vitus First Tracks Enduro. Fresh from a Scottish Vallelujah win he was feeling confident, though a little under the weather. The lurgy clearly didn’t slow him down though and Kelan took his second win on the trot. His race report will be up on Wideopen any minute.
