“Juvenile and Youth win at Forest of Dean Mini DH”
The Forest of Dean (FOD) Mini DH series has been a life blood to Downhill. The Gloucestershire based races have played a part to introducing many a young rider to grass roots racing. FOD is now a well established venue and trail centre with a mix of XC trails and DH trails and uplifts. For the race it’s back to the old school with a short push up, challenging tracks and fun encouraging atmosphere. The Mini DH series has been around for a number of years and is always a sell out (even local boy and Nukeproof rider Charlie Hatton missed out on an entry!)
The Nukeproof youths were out in force with Morgan Tyrrell from the Nukeproof supported Wideopen Team making the short drive from South Wales and Chris Cumming our Irish development rider the slightly longer trip via Sea Truck Ferries from Northern Ireland. Each round runs on a different track, this time around it was the well loved Ski Run trail. Just over a minute long of fun, fast and flowing mixture of natural features and man made berms.
With competitive racing across all age groups the Nukeproof youngsters came out on top in their catagories. Morgan winning Youth (Winning time: 1.08.360 only 1 second behind the elite fastest time of the day) and Chris winning Juvinille (winning time: 1.11.410)
Like many riders it was the FOD Mini series a couple of years back that introduced Chris to downhill racing. The fun tracks and atmosphere has always been a favourite event of his.
I had a smooth run and scored a 1:08. This time slotted me in 1st in youth and 4th overall.
